A Special Visitor!

Yesterday we were very lucky to have a special visitor in school! Norma, a working guide dog came in to assembly together with her owners Carol and Terry. Norma has been helping Carol to safely find her way around since her previous guide dog retired.

Carol explained that since losing her sight in 2013 both Norma and her former guide dog Flora have helped her in many ways. We learned that guide dogs are trained very carefully and when wearing their special harness they know that they are at work. The puppies are carefully matched to their owners and training continues as they start to work together to practise getting around safely together.

We learned that just as when we learn something new the training takes lots of practise, patience and perseverance! Thank you so much to Carol and Terry for telling us all about the wonderful work that assistance dogs do!

Thank you also to our families for your very generous donations to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
